Mid City Ballroom in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is an older church space that was converted into a music venue and is also home to Baton Rouge Music Exchange. This venue required a full audio and lighting solution that would be flexible enough to host a hip-hop show one night, and an acoustic performance the next, with equal quality and presentation. The need for flexibility also applied to the LED lighting design which needed to provide from a rock show feel, to a nightclub environment, or a warm ambience for an acoustic or jazz performance. The wood floors and walls of the space provided a unique challenge in tuning the system to be transparent and also dynamic at once.
RESPONSE
In order to accomplish the many challenges of Mid City Ballroom’s build, Pink Palace Media partnered with Presonus Audio by utilizing their specific gear to properly tune the system to the room for any application. By using UC Control, Presonus’ audio software, and SMAART, an acoustic analysis tool, we were able to access the acoustic attributes of the room. We also chose to use a Presonus Series III console, Presonus ULT Loudspeakers, and an Elation lighting fixtures to accomplish and exceed all the needs of Mid City Ballroom. By utilizing Elation lighting fixtures with variable white color temperature fixtures and pairing with RGB color LED fixtures in both back and front lighting positions, we were able to accomplish the customer’s goals for the lighting design on a very conservative budget.
